Our music video has a running narrative as well as performance based element, the performance basis helps support and relates to the narrative, the over all theme is about domestic abuse in a young relationship with the constant over shadowing the female creating mysterious presence. Throughout the whole project we have used the same gritty style with a large range of effects to create a very atmospheric aura which makes the perspective viewer more engaged in the video and also brings again brings element of mystery, which makes them intrigued to see what happens in the video as for the posters and CD cover portray this very well.
During our research process we did analyze different examples of existing CD covers, this helped with the inspiration of our own video, as well as much debated and creative discussion collaborating our ideas to create the designs, which enabled us to gain the maximum amount of detail. Using all aspects of our knowledge to make it eye-catching to the viewer especially the target audience that is the younger generation.
The Angel is the main character in the whole video, so we thought it would be appropriate to make the angel the main focus for the CD and poster. The angel is consistent element throughout every scene in the video as she is the main performer reciting the chorus. On the CD cover the shot used to display the angel character is a simple straight mid shot, with clear focus on the angels face and having a faded effect on the wings ensuring the clear focus on the angel herself even more. We did this because we feel the dramatic yet simplicity of the cover allows it to stand out as we didn’t feel it needed to be very busy cover with lots of different images as the cover we have created uniquely displays the symbolic aspect of our narrative.
We Created the CD cover on Photoshop taking new images of the angel in the studio after doing an individual photo shoot. We also used blur effects to create an aura around the main focal point. Moreover we also have used special high-key lighting around the angel, which puts her in a spotlight and keys in with our constant focus of the angel. The image has had the contrast and brightness altered to allow the theme to follow thought and made black and white. The poster has a blurred layer to enable the male and female characters to be represented as well as the angel so you can see exactly who will be in the video giving the audience more of an understanding as the image used is of a violent scene from our video, we captured this image through the use of screen grab then edited on Photoshop. The use of the clear display of our narrative and focus of main characters in our poster is helping to promote the song and video as the use of one of are location from the video for the background linking it to the video and also all of the characters which are involved in the video are used on the poster, this draws in the attention of the perspective viewer who many buy the single and will grab there attention of the poster which may also make them want to see what happens in the video, using the different companies at the bottom of the poster who have sponsored the track will also help contribute to the selling of the product as the perspective view can look on those website and listen to the song and download or buy it.
